2013 A Significantly Musical Year for Owosso Musicale
Owosso Musicale celebrated 80 years of support for music in Shiawassee County, co-sponsoring a concert with Rotary that featured the Alma College Percussion Ensemble that electrified the audience with jazz and more! 100% of Musicale’s profit supports music outreach and student awards.
Music outreach is enjoyed by the Musicale Chorus (see picture) as well as their audiences which include Memorial Hospital, Oliver Woods, Durand Rehabilitation Center, the Gould House and Glow Event as well as Michigan Federation Convention and Musicale meetings.
Additional programs varied from informative to world class music to interest all ages and tastes! We were entertained by world renowned pianist Geraldo Ashcheri, and musicians Marcia Anderson and Liz Febba (see picture), as well as, a music scholar from MSU, and our music award winners. November found Musicale celebrating Veterans’ Day with Soloist Ron Wilson, Flutist Louise Hemond-Wilson and the Owosso Chorus sharing the background history and rousing songs of each war era. Veterans were honored including WWII marine veteran and long-time Musicale member, Genny Jennings¸and we were honored to havevMayor, Ben Fredericks attend.
The program year finished with a joint holiday luncheon with MSARP who all enjoyed the talents of Owosso High School’s Madrigal Singers. Of special note this year were the four High School level music award winners from the annual competition that occurs on the last Saturday of February chaired by Cheryl Gapinski, and a large number of new club members!
