The music of the Alma College Percussion Ensemble is coming to Owosso Middle School’s Cournyer Auditorium on Friday, February 22nd  at 7pm.   “This is an outstanding group of talented performers!  Expect music that will entertain you and exhilarate you,” commented Owosso Rotary President, Ken Henry, “We are proud that our first joint fundraising concert with Owosso Musicale will bring quality music and recognition to local musicians  and music-lovers of our community.”
General admission tickets will be $10 for adults, $5 for students and free to students 18 years old and younger when accompanied by an adult with a ticket. “This event is not only a fund raiser, but opportunity to recognize the musical groups in our county that enrich our lives. It is definitely planned to be a family event,” added Carol Dowsett, event co-chair. Tickets are available from Owosso Rotary or Musicale members as well as the Owosso Community Players ticket office, Shiawassee Arts Center and Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce office. Tickets will also be available at the door until seats are sold out.
Proceeds from the concert will help these two non-profit organizations to provide music and academic awards as well as support Owosso Cares Backpack Project, YMCA/Rotary Soccer, Dominican Sanitation Project and various musical events through the year. Those wishing to sponsor the concert are asked to contact Laura Davis, Owosso Rotary Secretary at 923 Bradley St., Owosso 48867  (telephone: 725-5670).
The Alma College Percussion Ensemble, founded in 1989 by David Zerbe, is a multi-faceted performance ensemble featuring percussion instruments from piano to xylophones and drums. The group performs traditional chamber and classical music as well as world music, jazz and steel drum music. “The energy and variety of music presented in one program is a magical mix. It is easy to see why they consistently play to packed auditoriums,” said Owosso Musicale President, Sue Degerstrom, “When we went to a preview concert, I didn’t know how they managed to keep the energy level so high, but I definitely knew I didn’t want the music to end.” The Alma College Percussion Ensemble has toured with the Concert Band at concerts in Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, Orland, and throughout Michigan.
“You will tap your toes and be transported to tropical isles, then get lost in the melody and rhythm of these talented musicians.  You will enjoy every moment of this concert.  It is a must-do for your calendar,” Sue Henry, event co-chair summed up, “Additionally, you will be supporting worthy causes and the continuation of music education in our community.  Hope to see everyone there!”
